15 July: dense, slow growing, not dark enough to be called black, a few holes in foliage, nice uniformity, nice black, nice color and habit.


30 July: not entirely black- some green, blooms don't open fully, nice color, rich, dark, not quite black, deep color, not fading, nice coverage, uniform, subtle color variation stunning, prefer PW's Illusion Midnight Lace, nice leaf shape.

15 Aug: little Japanese beetle damage, hedge, uniform color, nice foliage contrast.


30 Aug: great color, grew a lot, nice color, more Japanese beetle damage.

15 Sept: Japanese beetle damage, foliage burning, spotty foliage, leaf shape gives presence.
